Where is Snowbasin?

Snowbasin Ski Resort Utah is located in the Wasatch-Cache National Forest near the small town of Huntsville in the Ogden Valley. Even though Snowbasin is further away from Salt Lake City airport than some of the other Utah ski resorts, it is still really close at only 46 miles away. Snowbasin is 42 miles north of Salt Lake City, 62 miles northwest of Park City, and 19 miles east of the city of Ogden.

Other Ski Resorts Nearby

Powder Mountain is also in the Ogden Valley area, 22 miles (35 mins) away. Snowbasin and Powder Mountain are complete contradictions. Unlike Snowbasin, Powder Mountain is a laid-back no-frills resort with limited groomers and lift infrastructure.

The family ski resort, Nordic Valley, is 17 miles away from Snowbasin.

Gateway Airports

The most common gateway airport for Snowbasin Utah is Salt Lake City which is serviced by all the major airlines. See flight options here.

Alternatively the Ogden-Hinkley Airport is 4 miles SW of Ogden, which has direct flights from Phoenix.

Driving to SnowBasin

A rental car is the way to go when travelling to Snowbasin, to provide the flexibility to get to and from your lodging and to restaurants, and to travel to Powder Mountain or other attractions in the area. It’s an easy drive and the Snowbasin Rd is wide and almost like a highway.

The GPS location of Snowbasin is 3925 E. Snowbasin Road, Huntsville Utah. Or for general directions, from the Salt Lake City airport, take I-15 North to US Hwy 89 (exit #324). Go north to I-84 to Mt Green/Huntsville (exit #92) to Highway 167 (aka Trapper’s Loop). Turn north at the Sinclair station. The Snowbasin Road 226 exits west from Trappers Loop.

From Park City take I-80 east I-84 at Echo Junction. Continue west on I-84 to Mt Green/Huntsville (exit #96). Follow to the signs to north Highway 167. Turn north at the Sinclair station then west on Snowbasin Road 226 to Snowbasin.

From Ogden, travel east through Ogden Canyon via 12th St and Hwy 39 to south Hwy 167. Follow the signs west on State Road 226 to Snowbasin.

If you have 3 or more people in your car you can get a rock star park at Snowbasin, otherwise you’ll be parking in one of the lower or outer parking lots. These are serviced by frequent “zoo trains” that ferry people from their cars right up to Earl’s Lodge.

Parking capacity can be problematic, especially on weekends if you get there late.

Shuttles from SLC Airport to Ogden Valley

A few companies offer transportation from the Salt Lake City International Airport to either the Snowbasin Ski Resort or Ogden Valley accommodation. One example is Black Diamond Shuttle.

Train to Ogden

From downtown Salt Lake City, another option is to catch the Frontrunner train from the Intermodal Hub (ie train station) to Ogden. From the Ogden train station, it’s then possible to get the UTA ski bus to Snowbasin but it’s a bit clunky.

UTA Shuttles to Snowbasin

Snowbasin Resort can be accessed by UTA ski buses from both the Layton and Ogden sides.

Route 675 runs between Snowbasin Resort and Ogden multiple times a day with stops at 21st street hotels in Ogden and Lakeside Resort Properties. Route 677 runs between Snowbasin Resort and the Layton FrontRunner Station.

Getting Between Ogden Valley Lodging & Snowbasin

If you don’t have a car, options include the UTA ski bus if you’re staying at the Lakeside Village or a couple of the Ogden Valley accommodations provide their own shuttle service.
